Privacy Policy
Effective date: 12 September 2026 · Last updated 14 September 2026
We hold no account for you and keep no data about you on any server. There is no sign-in and no analytics, and nothing you do in the app is sent to us. Two things do leave your device, and both are described below in full: Quran content is fetched from the Quran Foundation, and the free version of the app, on both iPhone and Android, shows ads through Google AdMob.
What the app stores
Everything the app remembers is kept in ordinary app storage on your phone:
- Your calculation method, madhab, and high-latitude preference
- Your per-prayer time offsets and quiet-window lengths
- Which prayers you want to be notified about
- The most recent location fix, so the widget can show correct times
This data is stored only on your device, and we never receive it (the one exception, a city-name lookup, is described under Location). Deleting the app deletes all of it. We have no copy and no way to obtain one.
Location
Prayer times and the Qibla direction depend on where you are, so the app asks for your location while you are using it. That coordinate is used to run a calculation on your device and is then stored locally so the widget stays accurate.
One detail worth stating plainly: to display a readable city name such as "Philadelphia, PA", the app asks your phone's built-in geocoding service to translate your coordinate into a place name — Apple's on iPhone, under Apple's privacy policy, and Google's on Android, under Google's privacy policy. That request goes to them, not to us. We never receive it, and the app does not retain anything from it beyond the city name shown on screen.
On Android you choose in the permission dialog whether to share your precise or approximate location; the app works with either.
You can decline location permission entirely. The app will fall back to a city you set by hand and keep working.
Notifications
Prayer alerts are local notifications scheduled on your device by iOS or Android. There are no push notifications, no push tokens, and no notification server.
On Android, if you allow it, the app can switch Do Not Disturb on for a prayer's quiet window and back off afterwards. It only changes that setting on your phone; nothing about it is sent anywhere.
Quran content
Quran data is provided by the Quran Foundation, the organisation behind Quran.com and QuranReflect, through its Content API. When you open the Quran, the app requests the text, translation, tafsir and recitation audio you asked for; and while the app is open it fetches the coming week's "Ayah of the day" verses in your chosen translation, which are kept on your device for at most 7 days. Those requests contain a chapter and verse range and nothing else — no account, no device identifier, and never your location. Recitation audio is cached on your device for at most 7 days so re-reading a surah does not re-download it, and is then deleted.
The app does not use Quran Foundation user accounts, so there are no Quran Foundation sign-in tokens to revoke and no Quran Foundation data held about you.
Religious information
Information about your religious practice is a sensitive, special category of personal data, and we treat it that way. Your prayer settings, which prayers you track, and what you read in the Quran stay on your device. We never receive them, never share them, and never use them for advertising. If a future version ever needed to collect religious information, it would ask for your explicit, opt-in consent first.
Advertising (free version, iPhone and Android)
The free version of the app is supported by ads served through Google AdMob. To show them, the Google Mobile Ads SDK uses your device's resettable advertising identifier (the Advertising ID on Android, the IDFA on iPhone). That identifier goes to Google as the ad network, under Google's privacy policy — see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services. It does not come to us, and we receive no personal information from advertising.
On iPhone, the app asks through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before the IDFA can be used; if you decline, ads are still shown but are not personalised. In the EEA and the UK you are also shown a consent choice before personalised ads are requested, and you can change that choice at any time from Settings. You can reset the advertising identifier in your device settings at any time. Buying Premium removes all advertising, and with it the ad SDK's requests.
We never use Quran content or anything you do in the app to build advertising profiles.
Your choices and rights
Ad choices. In the app, Settings › Ad privacy choices reopens the consent choice wherever the law requires one, and you can change it at any time. On iPhone you can also turn tracking off under Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking; on Android you can delete or reset the advertising ID under Settings › Privacy › Ads. Buying Premium removes ads, and the advertising identifier with them.
US state privacy laws (including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut and others). We do not sell personal information and hold none about you. Google, as the ad network, may use the advertising identifier for targeted advertising, which some state laws treat as a "sale" or "sharing". Where those laws apply, the app shows an opt-out through Ad privacy choices; choosing it limits Google to non-personalised ads.
Global Privacy Control. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or ad tags, so there is nothing for a Global Privacy Control signal to switch off. If we ever add anything that could sell or share personal data, we will treat a GPC signal as a valid opt-out.
Access and deletion (GDPR, UK GDPR and US state laws). Because we keep no data about you on any server, there is nothing for us to send or delete: your settings live on your device and are removed when you delete the app. For data Google holds against your advertising identifier, reset the identifier or use Google's own tools linked above. If you have a question, write to us at the address below and we will reply within 30 days.
Services we rely on
- Apple — place-name lookup and App Store purchases (privacy policy)
- Google — AdMob ads, the consent message, and Google Play purchases (privacy policy)
- Quran Foundation — Quran text, translations, tafsir and recitations (privacy policy)
- Vercel — hosts this website and a small service the app may call for a short-lived access pass to the Quran Foundation API; that request carries no personal information (privacy policy)
Each provider processes data under its own published data-protection terms, which bind it to protect that data. Some of them may process data outside your country; where they do, they rely on recognised legal safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Security
Every network request the app makes is encrypted with TLS. We hold no user data on any server, so there is none to breach. If we ever learn of a security incident affecting the app, we will respond within 24 hours, in line with Quran Foundation Security Rule 6.9.
What we do not do
- No analytics or usage tracking of any kind
- No crash-reporting SDK
- No selling, mining or repurposing of data — we hold none to sell
- No use of your data to train AI models
- No user accounts and no email collection
- Your location is never transmitted anywhere by us
Children
Salatia is suitable for all ages but is not directed at children under 13. The app itself collects no personal information from anyone; the only identifier involved is the advertising identifier described above, which buying Premium removes. Deleting the app deletes everything it stored.
Purchases
If you buy Premium, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see your name, payment details, or store account. The store simply tells the app whether the purchase is valid. See the Terms of Use for renewal and cancellation.
Changes
If a future version of the app ever begins collecting data, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be described here rather than buried.
